I can fix the non-scrolling thing, leave that with me.
We're going to use the LinkID that the wizard already generates for navigation. I'm guessing textWidth was inherited by building the connector from the plainText model, and the funcitonlaity somehow didn't make it over?

Subject: [Xerte-dev] Changes to Xenith, connectorPlainText and audioSlideshow models
Importance: High
Hi,
Two problems I thought would flag up with XOT:
Have been working on the audioSlideshow model for XENITH and while building a LO to test came across the no scrollbar problem in the screenshot. Not sure if this is the same or related to the problem Inge reported a few weeks back but thought i'd get it out there for discussion again anyway. The XENITH model wont do this but in the meantime it might be an issue for some...
The other problem is that I've made a first stab at the connectorPlainText model in XENITH if anyone wants a look. I've added 3 new methods to XENITH to help with finding pageID/linkID and to navigate to one or the other or a page number. I know the XOT only uses PageID but thought i'd get the others coded up in case they are required or that functionality would benefit someone. The problem is with the textWidth option. Doesn't seem to do anything in Flash XOT so i've left it out of the XENITH model for now. What is it supposed to do??

Thanks for looking John
you wouldn't believe how much time I've spent on this - I've tried different JS functions, building in delays, adding a button as Julian suggested. It has to be some kind of conflict with something in or linked from play.php but it beats me why it would only be a problem with IE.
The difference in code is simply that one is just a stand-alone LO whereas the other has all the XOT code.

Hi
I spent a good hour or more looking at the code delivered via both links to the 3 main different browsers but couldn't see anything obvious. Why is the html and rlo.js so different for both links?

It's very odd but there's clearly something missing or clashing...
It works from XOT via a typical play link like
/play.php?template_id=29&page=2 in all browsers apart from IE The same LO works locally in all browsers including IE via a link like
/index.htm?template_id=29&page=2 Obviously in the latter the template=x isn't doing anything but I've been replicating the xot link in case the extra param was causing a problem
The JS works
The xerte code works
So I'm thinking it's either a problem with the callJS function unique to IE when used via XOT or some kind of clash with something else in play.php or linked from play.php?

I've been testing this further (using IE9) and as far as I can see document.location.search, location.search, and window.location.search all work with IE9. To try to isolate the problem I've tried two things:
1. Created the attached test file and then used http://localhost/deep_link_test2.php?page=3&pageID=three and the alert shows the correct values with each of above options
2. I tried adding a button to the xerte function as Julian suggested to ensure everything had loaded and then displaying one of the variables on click of the button which shows as undefined when viewing the lo via
play.php?page=3 but works fine when viewing the LO via index.htm?page=3
So I'm stumped! :-(

Hi Jonathan/all
prompted by a couple of recent discussions I've been revisiting this desire to enable 'deep linking' to pages within LO's especially online XOT LO's....
Firstly before anyone chips in with a whole load of why's and wherefore's again read the previous thread - not all of which is included below. In short there is agreed value in enabling this so it would be good to focus any new discussion here on getting it to work as well as possible.
I've been updating the previous test file and we have a new oninnitComplete function to remove the need for an additional delay. I should add that my focus for this is primarily XOT so that's what I've been testing with.
There's also a separate discussion about possibly changing the use of pageID used by the connectors to use linkID instead but in a way that's a separate issue and in any case I've updated the code to work with page=x, pageID=x and linkID=x
The code inside Nottingham.rlt can no doubt be simplified because at the moment there is some duplication for each parameter but this bit of the solution works what I've not been able to identify is why the additional Javascript Jonathan was using isn't working in IE via a toolkits URL even though it's working in FF, Safari, Chrome & Opera and also working in IE via /index.htm?page=x just not in IE via /play.php?template_id=22&page=12
So for me at least all of these work in FF, Safari, Chrome & Opera but not IE
http://vle.jisctechdis.ac.uk/xot/play.php?template_id=22&page=12
http://vle.jisctechdis.ac.uk/xot/play.php?template_id=22&pageID=cHotspotImag
e
http://vle.jisctechdis.ac.uk/xot/play.php?template_id=22&linkID=PG1334782342
557
Do any of these work for you in IE?
The function in rloObject.js is as follows:
function getUrlParam(pairName){
var searchString = document.location.search; var pairVal = "";
searchString = searchString.substring(1);
var nvPairs = searchString.split("&");
for (i = 0; i < nvPairs.length; i++)
{
var nvPair = nvPairs[i].split("=");
if (nvPair[0] == pairName){
pairVal = nvPair[1];
}
}
return pairVal;
}
clearly the XOT code works else it wouldn't work in the other browsers and the JS works for all browsers apart from IE except that it work in IE via index.htm
Anyone go any ideas why a link like /play.php?template_id=22&page=12 isn't working in IE?
Or perhaps an alternative JS function that would work?
Cheers
Ron
