This is getting to be a developer's thread, so moved it here:

http://tv.adobe.com/watch/flex-community-summit-december-2011/open-discussion-about-falcon-and-falconjs

Interesting, as is the discussion afterwards, but it looks a long way from anything useful: but it is my assertion that someone will do a sensible tool / framework / OOP thing and get it pumping out html5 whilst shielding the developer from the .js limitations and frustrations.

i even started thinking about a xerte-like xml editor and a javascript runtime: if you worked on the original set of icons in xerte, most of them wouldn't be so hard to do in javascript with some help from something like jquery:

Text? Tick
Image? Tick
Video? <video>. Much easier. Tick
Sound? <audio>. Also much easier. Tick
Page? <div> tick
Framework? <div> manager. Tick.
Entry Frame? Global <div>. Tick
Decision? Advanced <div> manager. Tick.
Interaction? Hmm. Would probably just use events and event responses, but otherwise it's a <div> manager like FW or DEC.
Script? <script> I guess, if you can execute javascript from xml files, which I assume you can.

That's most of them (except drawing), and to start with you ought to be able to handle the media and pages on (nested) frameworks. That would do a lot of what people use most.

So who's gonna make a start on it?

Wasn't that Java?

Well, there is a race on for good component based framework that can do author once, deliver to any browser, and if they can get .mxml pumping out JavaScript, css and html then brilliant, especially if you happen to know a guy who can write .mxml editors with an elearning flavour to them...

Yes, noticed that.

"Prototype" and "after"

This was the interesting bit:

Falcon JS compiler contribution to Apache
Falcon JS is an experimental ActionScript 3 compiler that targets JavaScript rather than the Flash Runtime. Adobe will contribute the prototype of Falcon JS source code to the Apache Flex Project after the completion and contribution of Falcon 1.0.
