That's where they should go then.

Exactly the same.
I think we can finalise this now?

"So I am/was a bit surprised that I saw all the individual xwds in the xot repository. I don't see the point."
I put a copy in there because it was my understanding that I had been asked to do so at the time the XOT site was being set up.
The only reason to put them in the XOT repository is if you were ever going to rebuild the data.xwd file, perhaps to include your own additional page types. However since I would have thought the best place to develop any new pages would be in Xerte I can see no point in having a set of xwds in the XOT repository.
There is other stuff though that has common usage in Xerte and XOT e.g. the model files, common files core swfs?
My expectation was that the pageWizards section would effectively become redundant once the work on 2.18 was completed - I only created it to give me somewhere to work in parallel to the existing Xerte files whilst the development work on 2.18 took place.
With version 2.18 there is no pageTemplates xtp file any more.
"Previously I had them in the xerte repo, so that I could run Xerte standalone from there and have the latest .rlms in a page templates project: that made it easy to fire up a project, open up the rlm and make changes / fix things. It also means you can work on the engine with the latest set of files easily, and debug stuff if you need to."
If we follow the logic of this we would have a pages folder in the root of the xerte svn / runtime / folder. This would contain the folders common, mapstraction, media, models, thumbs, wizards, and the pages.rlo and xwd files. It would also contain the template.rlt and template.xml files (presumably also the template.xwd file or would this be generated on the fly when you created a new pageTemplates type project?).
Is it possible to agree and finalise this? I know Tom has made some changes to the files in the pageWizards section of the svn and also that he was concerned that my approach to copying files would lose the versioning data.
My knowledge of how the svn works is not as good as Tom's so can I suggest that since Julian is unsure of the location of the new files that if Julian is OK with it that Tom sets up the Xerte svn / runtime / pages / folder consistent with his preferences for which set of files to have in there and with maintaining the versioning information of the files.
One aspect I am particularly unsure of is the relationship of the core swf files XMLengine.swf, editor.swf etc. to both Xerte and XOT. Do they use different versions or do they both use the same files. If so someone who is familiar with these files and which ones are the latest stable versions will need to ensure that both Xerte and XOT has copies of the latest ones.
Then we should all be in a position in which we know which set of files to be changing and can start taking action to correct some of the bugs in the XOT beta test site.
Does that make sense?
Kind regards
Johnathan

Ehmmm, yes that was my assumption as well. (sort of) I didn't want to package them in an xtp for Xerte standalone though.
So I am/was a bit surprised that I saw all the individual xwds in the xot repository. I don't see the point.

It also means you can work on the engine with the latest set of files easily, and debug stuff if you need to. Those files were then made into a .xtp file for standalone, or moved into the toolkits repo after testing on the Nottingham toolkits server. I'd like to stick with that arrangement as I think it worked well.

and the key question as Jonathan asked too - where's the primary source of the xwd's and rlms etc to be? e.g. if today at 1pm one of us wanted to make a change, addition, fix to one of the rlm's where should that be committed?

If you generate a xwd from lots of small xwds for each model, how do you add in the LO stuff? There's no model for that.

I imagine the stylesheet option has gone because there isn't an LO model, so Tom built in the LO properties from an old file to his generator.
Ehmmm, come again? Can I fix that?
The order of things: I like the order suggested: Text, Media, Navigators, Connectors, Interactivity, etc. I thought this was determined by the LO node in the xwd as well?
The order has been fixed. Not committed yet though...
The order is determined from the xwd, but what is in there is dynamic (sort of) from the individual xwd's. But Like I said, I found a soltution that for all purposes will work out just fine.

That's a good point Jonathan but I guess the answer isn't straightforward :-(
e.g. I notice Fay has just updated /trunk/modules/xerte/parent_templates/Nottingham/data.xwd but I'm not sure what changes that contains or whether that brings it in sync or out of sync with the Xerte version or rather versions.
As we've listed and discussed the custom stylesheet option has gone missing in the XOT 1.8 beta to which I guess means it's gone missing from the xwd but I'm not sure how or why. Likewise there's the discussion about the order in which the categories and page types appear in the Nottingham template and I guess this applies to Xerte as well as XOT although I haven't checked if this has changed in Xerte too?
I guess Julian is king and needs to guide us? ;-)
Cheers
Ron

Subject: [Xerte-dev] Location of xwd and rlm files in the svn(s) plus any other shared files
Currently we have separate svns for Xerte and Toolkits.
Whilst developing the new model and xwd files I set up a pageWizards folder in the root of the Xerte svn so that they could be developed parallel to the existing models which were still in use.
Now we have come to a point where we are testing a beta release of Toolkits that is based on these new models and xwds. Also a beta release of desktop Xerte is imminent, which will also be using the same model and xwd files. They will also share many other files e.g. thumbs, the "common" folder and I also (?) the core files such as editor.swf, XMLengine.swf etc.
Would it not make sense for all the shared files to be kept in one location so that we avoid a situation in which the various copies of the files that currently exist get out of synch with each other? If the Toolkits release is using earlier versions of swf files that have been modified in the desktop Xerte then this is going to create anomalies during testing, since the models were developed in the desktop environment.
Where then are we to keep them?
The testing of the XOT beta is raising the need to make some changes to xwd files and possibly also some model files. I don't want to start making these changes whilst there is ambiguity as to which set of files to work from.
Personally I have no preference as to where they are kept. I think Tom may have a view on this.
Currently there are copies of the new xwd and rlm files in
xerte svn / runtime/pages /
xerte svn / pageWizards/models (rlms) and pageWizards/en-gb (xwds)
XOT svn/ modules/xerte/parent_templates/Nottingham/models (rlms) and wizards (xwds)

Johnathan
