[Syrphidae] Important - Plagiarism of a publication on hoverflies (Plume et al. 2024)

Hello everyone,

Thomas Lebard discovered a publication that largely reproduces the 
article by Plume /et al/. 2024:

Okafor C, Okeke S, Obi I. 2025. A Study on the Diversity of 
Flower-Visiting Hoverflies (Diptera: Syrphidae) in Maquis Shrublands 
Near Ajaccio, South-Western Corsica, France. /Entomol Res Let/t. 2025 
5(2): 66–77. (see attached)

Several elements quickly caught his attention:
– he is cited in the pers. comm. while I have never had any contact with 
these authors
—the authors are affiliated with Nigerian universities, which is 
surprising for such an intensive field study in Corsica
—most importantly, the figures are reproduced /verbatim/, and the text 
corresponds very closely to the original, with essentially only paraphrases

Upon verification, it appears to be a substantial reprint of:
Plume, L., Maestracci, P.Y. & Gibernau, M. 2024. Insight Into the 
Diversity of Flower-Visiting Hoverflies (Diptera: Syrphidae) in 
Shrubland Maquis Around Ajaccio (South-West Corsica, France). /Journal 
of Applied Entomology/: 1–11.

Thomas Lebard, Simon Cavaillès, Alexandre Cornuel-Willermoz and myself 
were cited in personal communications even though we have had no contact 
with these people.

Marc Gibernau sends emails to the corresponding author, the journal that 
published the plagiarized material, and the journal that published the 
original article.

If you are told about this article, please let them know that it is 
plagiarized.
