Dear colleagues

The Ethical Data Initiative, co-hosted by the Technical University of
Munich and the University of Exeter, remains steadfast in its commitment to
advancing global equity and responsibility in data practices. As a
non-partisan platform, we strive to increase data literacy and advocate for
a human-centric approach to the way data is collected, used, and shared
across borders and disciplines.

Our strength lies in our community. With a large network of affiliates and
partners worldwide, the EDI has become an important space for cross-sector
dialogue. As we move further into 2026, we are looking to enrich our
vibrant blog section with diverse insights from those at the forefront of
these challenges. We invite you to share your work and perspectives with
our global audience, helping to shape the ethical standards of tomorrow.

Read our blog collection here <https://ethicaldatainitiative.org/blog/>

We are currently welcoming articles of approximately 500 words that examine
the ethical dimensions of your specific research or data practices. Rather
than simple reports, we value pieces that offer critical reflection or
practical insights into the complexities of data responsibility. Recent
contributions from our community illustrate the breadth of this
conversation, such as Ed Humpherson’s (Director of the UK Office for
Statistics Regulation) analysis of intelligent transparency in official
statistics, RDA Secretary General Hilary Hanahoe’s reflections on our
recent Town Hall, and Evan Josselin’s (Institut Jean Nicod) exploration of
ethical risks in environmental citizen science.

If you have a perspective to share or a draft to propose, please reach out
to our Operations Director, Kate Bailey (
kathryn.bailey at ethicaldatainitiative.org), with a short overview of your
idea.

In addition to our written publications, we encourage you to join us for
the upcoming EDI Community Town Hall on 12 March 2026. This event provides
a dedicated space for stakeholders to discuss the evolving data landscape
and help steer the future direction of the initiative. You can find out
more and register for the event via our website at the following link:

We look forward to your contributions and to welcoming you to the
discussion in March.

Best wishes

Suchith (on behalf of the EDI team)
