I also welcome and endorse this initiative and am thankful to David Pearson and David Reinking.
Bound copies of the attached report, The Carbon Clock is Ticking: Children Will Live the Future that Burning Fossil Fuels is Setting on Fire, have been sent to members of the U.S. Congress with the letter that is also attached.
Bound copies of Part Two of the research report will be sent to Congress in September.
There are also several videos focusing on the research. One video made by Canadian climate scientists of the research has had close to 2,000 views.
Digital copies of the report and associated docs are on my website and PDF copies are available to download.
The situation is dire. We will breach 1.5 C by 2026, By 2030 the number of catastrophic weather events worldwide is expected to double, and by 2050 the IPCC has stated one billion people will be displaced and forced to migrate because the regions of the planet where they live will have become uninhabitable.
And yet, it is not too late to act if we all step up.
Denny

EXTERNAL MESSAGE
Writing to endorse David's endorsement of Third Act. I too have joined.
At Piedmont Gardens, the senior community in which we live, we have a local Climate Action Committee; we are promoting specific actions to retard if not eliminate the impact of fossil fuels on our lives and the lives or our descendants--in our homes, in our communities, and in our world. I have yet to join the educators' subgroup, but now that I know you are involved, David R., I will.
If you believe that preserving our environment and preserving our democracy are important goals, then Third Act could be your go to organization.

Dear Hall of Fame Friends and Colleagues,
I’m an active member of a group—a movement actually—that might interest many of you. It’s called Third Act<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fthirdact.org%2Fwhy-third-act%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cvictoria.j.risko%40vanderbilt.edu%7C362caecf303a4085b34608da65e39b69%7Cba5a7f39e3be4ab3b45067fa80faecad%7C0%7C0%7C637934327091709987%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=h6FK0lxyohMfhqaDLphrbQ8Vv8PE3NmKC2rlW8wWDfU%3D&reserved=0>, a name that fits its purpose to engage concerned citizens over 60 in improving the world for future generations. Third Act originated and currently operates in the U.S., but there might be similar movements for those of you who live elsewhere.
The movement, thus far, hasn’t incorporated literacy specifically into its agenda, but there is an educators’ working group that I have joined, and there are educational/literacy dimensions of the causes it has taken on.
Third Act has mobilized nationally on two big issues: climate change (e.g., collective action to suspend business with big banks funding projects that increase our dependence on fossil fuels) and protecting and advancing voting rights (e.g., a “senior-to-senior” program in which members contact high school seniors reminding them to become registered voters).
But, Third Act’s agenda is evolving in these and other areas as it listens to its members. For example, when I joined the working group, a team leader interviewed me to learn what causes and issues I was most committed to and how I might contribute.
Third Act is a good fit for me as a parent, grandparent, and educator. It has mitigated my sense of frustration, helplessness, and sadness about trends that threaten democracy and livability on the planet for future generations. It also allows me to reclaim the idealistic activism of my “First Act” as an undergraduate in Chicago during the late 1960s. Likewise, it allows me to counter the now disturbing erosion of the progressive gains from that era. And, it has been encouraging and interesting to meet and work with like-minded seniors who will not accept the inevitability of a dark future nor a legacy of complacency.
If any of this resonates with you, you might consider joining Third Act, or similar movements.
