Kia ora tatou
Happy New Year to y'all - there, a bit of Kiwi New Zealand with greetings
to you all, and USA with y'all - I learned that one from the very special
Carrice Cummins!
Thanks for this very interesting 'article' - shows that every piece of text
can be a source of learning, thinking, laughing - especially now with the
reminder of the four freedoms! Perhaps not laughing with that, but
certainly challenging. Wonder what other freedoms we'd add to that list
now? The language being used by politicians here in NZ is fascinating, as
it probably is everywhere. I would love to have a group of able 10 - 12
year olds to talk with, to help them unpack the rhetoric. to consider whose
interests are being served and why, how alternate 'voices' are being shut
down and why, and what are the pros and cons and consequences of the
current situation. Always remember Alan Farstrup, one of my favourite
people, saying, "There's research, and there's research!" Even more true
today.
OK, soap box is being put away. Kia kaha - stay strong.
All the very best to you all
Heather Bell
May you all have a safe, sane, healthy and happy 2022
