I just learned through the grapevine that Lenore H. Ringler passed away in May of this year. Lenore served as President of NRC from 1984 - 1985. (A young fellow named Pearson followed immediately after her in this role.)
She was co-author of A language-thinking approach to reading: Diagnosis and teaching, Born to Learn (Pippin Teacher's Library): Developing a Child's Reading and Writing, Raising Readers and Writers: A Guide for Parents and Caregivers among other works.
