Lovely video, Yetta!

I notice that the Big Bad Wolf wasn’t wearing a mask, either!

I predict that things might end quite badly for him….

Kia ora tatou - greetings from New Zealand

Yetta, you have every reason to be proud of your daughter Wendy and her daughter Shirley - what great readers being created. Would that every parent and every teacher support learning for young children in the same way! I am currently reading a book A Conversation with My Country, by Alan Duff, author of Once Were Warriors, and the instigator of the superb Duffy Books in Homes programme. Alan is a Maori who is not afraid to challenge, to give his views of the importance of children being read to, to being loved and nurtured and treated with respect, to be given a love of learning and schooling, and to suggest ways that we could move forward to reduce child poverty and violence - a truly remarkable man who speaks with heart and head. When I watched Wendy in action with Shirley, Alan's comments interrupted the viewing in my mind, so had to watch the video again, and again.

Thank you for sharing such an important adventure - reminds me also of Peter Johnson's new book Engaging Literate Minds - same critically important ideas. Thank goodness we have people in USA, UK, Australia, NZ - the ones I know about - who advance these actions and reflections.

Nga mihi nui - and take care.
Heather aka Hx

Oh I enjoyed this. Congratulation Wendy as it is such a challenge teaching young children virtually. Made my day!
Thanks for sharing. We need more of these stories.

Wendy Goodman sent me the attached video of the work she's doing with her class of preschoolers.
I'm sending this related to the discussion on RHofF relating children's learning to read and the teaching
of reading. (See Utube link below)

Grama Wendy and Mama Rachel are talking to Shirley (3 1/2) as Shirley reenacts The Three Little Pigs.
Shirley uses her own creations to draw/tell the story using her drawings to put on the board.
She then sings/tells the story using her own artwork she pasted on the board based on what she has learned reading/listening to the book (before drawing) a period of time read to her by teacher Grama Wendy virtually. Grama Wendy is teaching her class of preschoolers virtually and everyone of her children who are being supported by a parent at home will have a copy of their own video of their creations. (Corona Virus learning to read experience) A new normal world. From Yetta (GreatGrama)
Grama Wendy (is Yetta's daughter) an experienced 30 year veteran early childhood teacher in Tucson Unified Schools
who creates experiences in which her students are continuously learning to read.

As the culmination of 3 weeks of The Three Little Pigs, I asked my families to video their child, using the projects they’ve done, retelling the story. I’m editing the videos for each kid as I did Shirley’s. So far 6 families have completed this project. Teacher Wendy Goodmanj
