[Reading-hall-of-fame] Re: Nominations to RHF

I agree about promoting the careers of new scholars. We have had a
mentoring program in place for quite a while, and it has been successful.
However it has not focused on matters of race and ethnicity directly.
Perhaps it should. We can make that happen right away. It is important to
note, however, that we might end up competing with LRA's and NCTE's
programs to establish communities for young minority scholars.

On the membership issue, I come down on the Hilary-Judith side of this
initiative, but maybe with a different standard. Instead of suspending the
recruitment of White scholars, why don't we just expand our efforts to
recruit minority scholars. And, perhaps--given the issues with the pipeline
into academia in the past, we should modify the 25 year rule.
