Dear Colleagues,
It’s great to offer radical ideas to prompt us all to think. But I don’t think accepting only new RHF members of color truly attacks systemic racism. Much more helpful would be an initiative, as Judith suggests, to support a diversity of young scholars. Or a program of mentorship aimed at scholars of color, or an initiative to support undergraduates of color, especially those who are at risk of not staying in school.
Keep thinking everyone! I’m sure this creative group can come up with some excellent and valuable ideas!
Best regards,
Moddy McKeown

Dear colleagues,
I support Hilary’s suggestion. We might also want to consider creating an early scholars initiative to support diverse scholars in the futures in literacy research and leadership.

Dear colleagues
I have a radical proposal. I believe that RHF should only accept nominations of academics of colour until such time as people of colour make up 40-50% of our members. It would be a move against systemic racism that would express solidarity with our colleagues of colour. Some of us would even be prepared to resign to help even up the numbers and to speed up the process should this be considered necessary.
