Gordon was a colleague and close friend for more than at decade at
OISE. He moved to California when forced to retire at 65 at OISE. I
was disappointed to see him move on. We agreed on many things but
disagreed over his preference for "discourse" explanations of
development whereas I preferred cognitive explanations. Our arguments
were always interesting and productive. His book on discursive thought
was a major achievement. What a tragic loss. David Olson
