I considered Gordon a very good colleague. He was not only supportive and helpful in my early work, but we met several long times to discuss classroom discourse and literacy learning. We and our project teams members gained tremendously. Im seared to learn of his a accidental death. My condolences to his family.

Gordon had a major impact on my early work in written language development. Both he and Ken helped me understand that the power of learning about language itself was basic if I wanted to understand how young children learn language -- .

No child needs to be motivated to learn. To learn is their trade.
They can't stop learning because they can't stop growing.

Every time we teach a child something, we keep him/her from
inventing it. On the other hand, that which we allow him/her to
discover will remain visible for the rest of his/her life.
