Thanks for the first letter you sent out David R. Another thought in
response. In addition to sharing the research on the reading process, it is
also important to make sure that the notion that "teachers are not
knowledgeable or capable" which came through in the NPR piece needs to be
addressed. Knowledgeable and experienced teachers often with master's and
other advanced degrees are often thwarted from using real reading and
writing in early grades and especially with minority students by state and
district mandates. Yetta
