This a final update regarding the PBS letter/email, which, as noted earlier, will be submitted around 8pm EST this evening. Our list of those signing the letter has grown substantially today—an even more impressive group now. Names are provided below, without all the positions, affiliations and kudos that will be included in the email to PBS. Again, if I’ve omitted anyone, please email me pronto at David.Reinking at uga.edu<mailto:David.Reinking at uga.edu> or reinkin at clemson.edu<mailto:reinkin at clemson.edu>.
When I submit the letter, I will make it clear that all of you listed below support the letter and have independently decided to sign it. I will also indicate that each of you could be contacted independently using the contact information (email addresses) provided. That’s unlikely, but you never know. And, after consulting with Jeanne and Vicki, I will also indicate that any response from PBS to the group as a whole can be sent to me as a reply and that I will forward to all.
I know this effort has generated many emails to the HofF list (but, then again, you should see my inbox☺). Given that volume, I would encourage everyone to use discretion in posting further messages. For example, many of you have graciously expressed your appreciation for our coordination of this effort. We really do feel appreciated, so no need for more public thanks. It was an enjoyable team effort— and, personally, I have to say that, as many of you are well aware, Vicki and Jeanne are a pleasure to work with.
We also feel invigorated by an enhanced sense of collegiality and a renewed confidence that, despite our many different perspectives and agendas, we can generate a strong consensus about a key issue in literacy in a way that has potential to shape awareness and dialog nationally and internationally. We hope you all feel likewise. Might we build on that spirit?
