Thanks very much from me too,
I'm so relieved something is being done 'up there', as this is a massive issue for us in African contexts - I am attaching a very short article I wrote which summarises some work we here are doing to try and challenge the largely reductionist views that still dominates our literacy teaching here, in case it might be interesting. We have a much longer one we are updating and will try and publish soon.

Dear Colleagues,
By 8pm EST tomorrow (Monday) evening, we intend to send the letter to PBS expressing our concerns about the NewsHour’s segment on dyslexia. We made some minor revisions to address the concerns Dick Anderson raised and that were seconded by a few others. Although the tone is moderated somewhat, the substance of the original is essentially the same. See attached revision. Thanks to David Pearson for specific feedback and the addition of a couple new sentences in this final draft.
We have also attached a separate file listing all of the 40+ HofF members who have independently agreed to be signatories. Please check that we didn’t inadvertently omit you. Also, check your entry for accuracy. However, be aware that we did some editing to the entries we were sent to make them more parallel, have no hint of commercialism, etc. And, if you indicated that you wanted to sign, but omitted details, we created your entry based on information we found about you on the web. In the interest of time, please be forgiving if the entry isn’t precisely as you might want it to be.
Tomorrow is the deadline for adding your name to the letter or correcting any inaccuracies in the signature file. However, we don’t intend to make any substantive changes to the letter before it is sent.
We think this effort has been a healthy and useful exercise of the Hall of Fame as an organization and as a collegial network. Regardless of whether the letter inspires PBS to take any specific action, we have offered informed perspectives on a critical issue to an important source for public information. It is likely to bear fruit in some way. It might also inspire us to become more involved in shaping ideas about literacy in public forums. Along those lines, there have been suggestions to share the letter with Education Week and perhaps other outlets.
We thank all who have supported this effort,
David, Jeanne, and Vicki
