Dear Reading Hall of Fame Colleagues:
As per our voting regulations, it is time to begin the process of soliciting nominations for a President-Elect of the Reading Hall of Fame. The individual serves as President-Elect for one year prior to assuming the President’s office for a two year term of service (total of three years.) The individual elected will assume the office of President of the Reading Hall of Fame at the conclusion of the 2019 Reading Hall of Fame Meeting at the Literacy Research Association. A more complete (draft) job description of the President and President Elect duties can be found below. If you would please send your nominations, including self nominations, to me by August 1, 2018 at the following email address, it would be very much appreciated:

Once a slate of candidates is decided upon by the RHF Executive Committee, we will put this election ballot out to a vote of the membership. Thank you for your nominations.

Duties of the RHF President-Elect
Draft 7.11.18
The RHF President-elect shall:
1. act as President pro-tem of RHF in the absence, incapacity, or resignation of the President.
2. attend Executive Committee meetings.
3. prepare a written report for the Annual RHF Business meeting describing activities completed to date.
4. work with RHF President to plan and conduct the RHF Annual Business Meeting.
5. supervise and otherwise coordinate with the RHF Newsletter Editorial Team the publication of an annual RHF Newsletter to be distributed to the membership and posted on the RHF website.
6. serve for a term of one (1) year. This term shall begin at the close of the RHF Annual Meeting and shall continue through the close of the next Annual Meeting.
7. succeed automatically to the Office of President for two (2) years.
8. serve in a general capacity as the President’s advisor in matters affecting RHF.
9. Shadow the President in maintaining communications and building relationships with national/international figures; attend meetings and participate in conversations as possible.
10.keep up with current media information relevant to the field.
11.perform additional duties at the discretion of the RHF President and Executive Committee.
Reading Hall of Fame Presidential Duties
Draft 7.11.18
A. Call and facilitate at least two Executive Board meetings between annual business meetings.
B. Preside at all meetings of the Executive Board, act as chair and presiding officer of the Executive Board, and provide reports of all activities.
C. Ensure the formulation of annual goals to guide Executive Board activity.
D. Act as co-approver with the RHF Treasurer for Association disbursements.
E. Submit to the Executive Board names of RHF representatives to serve on the Emerging Scholars Fellowship Selection Committee and Newsletter Committee for renewable three-year terms, respectively, and notify those persons of their appointments.
F. Recommend to the Executive Board and appoint those persons approved to chair standing and special committees and notify those persons of their appointments.
G. Communicate with the Executive Board regarding the annual breakfast, business meeting, and inaugural address sessions at the Literacy Research Conference annually.
H. Fulfill the duties of presiding officer at the annual induction breakfast and business meeting in collaboration with the members of the RHF Executive Board.
I. In collaboration with the Executive Board and the Conference Manager, plan and facilitate the annual induction breakfast, business meeting, and inaugural address sessions at the Literacy Research Association (LRA) and the annual RHF presentation session at the International Literacy Association (ILA) annual meeting.
J. Preside at membership meetings of the Reading Hall of Fame.
K. Report on the Reading Hall of Fame’s status at the annual conference (Annual Report).
L. Provide articles annually to the RHF Newsletter.
M. Act as official spokesperson for the Reading Hall of Fame in collaboration with the Executive Board.
N. Maintain communications and build relationships with national/international figures; attend meetings and participate in conversations as possible.
O. Serve as primary contact for all external and reciprocal organizations.
P. Keep up with current media information relevant to the field.
Q. In collaboration with the Executive Board, identify primary areas of responsibility for the Historian and Webmaster.
R. Communicate directly with the Historian and Webmaster regarding RHF business and areas of responsibility.
S. Perform additional duties at the discretion of the Executive Board.
T. Provide transition to the incoming President Elect and President and mentor as requested.
U. Work with RHF Secretary for all elections of new RHF members and supervise election of the President Elect.
V. Nominate, with Executive Board, other executive committee officers, e.g., secretary, treasurer, historian, and submit names to Membership at annual meeting for approval..
W. Contact newly elected members of the RHF and the newly elected President Elect of RHF
X. Communicate with members issues of importance to the organization’s well being and expanding influence
Y. Respond to requests of members about issues and inform them of any events related to RHF affairs, activities (e.g. deaths, special events).
