[Reading-hall-of-fame] Re: on another note

Dear Victoria and others (I'm hoping this will send through to your list,
Victoria),

As a new member, I'm not sure if it is OK to as advice - if it isn't, you
can ignore me!

The attached was sent round to a reading advisory committee I am on in
South Africa for the Minister of Education.
This group is presently drawing up a norms and standards document for South
African schools. It's a very thorny issue for us, or perhaps for me, as I
feel strongly that we need to nourish teachers and children in the system
as a priority and that in a sense trying to create norms and standards for
a very diverse population of children gets in the way of this. But it's
being done in any case. I am pretty much a lone voice.

The author, attached,  Helen Abadzi's work appears highly scientifically
reliable to many working in my contexts. I need to provide alternative
'evidence' to this kind and wonder if anyone  could send on what you think
might be useful.
