[Reading-hall-of-fame] Re: Reading Hall of Fame home base

I understand your concerns, Jim, but I am not sure how to respond. The
RHF, like any special interest community, defines inclusion and exclusion
by its very nature. By the same token, LRA defines an internal elite of
"INs" and "OUTs" by changes in the privileged foci, epistemologies,
methods, anon, anon. The trick is not to rid ourselves of special
interests but to hold them in healthy tension with a broader ethos of the
LRA community as a whole.

And doesn't our presence in conjunction with ILA/IRA pose the same danger
of "Inness" you identified for LRA? Haven't we, in that sense, always
suffered from that critique? My question is, Does that make us any
different than any number of other categories of "specialness>"

I think the move would makes sense for other criteria that have been
suggested: It's really, for me at least, more a matter of identity
(somehow the core of RHF feels closer to LRA), convenience (cheaper to
travel, especially internationally, in the dead of the US winter), and
attendance prospects (you have already heard from several LONG TIME
formerly dedicated IRA/ILA members who have no future plans to affiliate
with ILA).

I don't know what to do about official affiliation. Maybe nothing--don't
ask, don't tell. Maybe a grass roots effort--we just organize symposia and
alternative sessions and bid for slots, as LRA members, on the program.
Not sure.

But I think a face to face discussion, with an internet hook-up for those
who want to ZOOM in, in Orlando, is called for. May need to schedule extra
time.
