Dear Reading Hall of Fame Members,    Below are several important updates.

ILA Conference in Orlando, July 15-17, 2017.

Reading Hall of Fame Presentation:  3:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Saturday, July 15, 2017 (W312C).  In this session, recent inductees will discuss their research and its impact on literacy practices.  The presenters include:  Jan Dole, Gay Ivey, Marjorie Lipson, and Brian Street.   We hope that you will plan to attend this presentation.

Reading Hall of Fame Breakfast Meeting and Induction Ceremony – 7:00-9:00 a.m., Sunday, July 16 (Conference Center, Room TBD).    At this meeting, we will welcome the following new members of Reading Hall of Fame:  Heather Bell, (Rosebank School, New Zealand);  Carole Bloch, (Project for the Study of Alternative Education in South Africa); Donna Scanlon (The University at Albany );  Norm Stahl (Northern Illinois University); MaryEllen Vogt (California University, Long Beach).  We will also induct Dr.  Ronald Carver (deceased) at this meeting.

                We will hold our annual business meeting at this breakfast.  As usual, we have important items to discuss, including the possibility of moving our annual meeting from ILA to LRA.  If you have items that you wish to place on the agenda, please let me know.

Dues Payment (New Dues Structure).  As you may recall, we changed our dues structure to a one-time only payment – beginning in 2017.  These funds help to support RHF initiatives, including the Young Scholars Fellowship Program.  If you haven’t already done so, please send your check to:    Timothy Rasinski, Reading and Writing Center, 404 White Hall, TLC, Kent State University, Kent, OH 44242 USA

Below is a summary of the new dues structure.

  *   Existing members of 10 years or less to make a one-time payment of $100, due January 2017 (inducted 2007 or after).
  *   Members of more than 10 years (inducted prior to or in 2006) would  make a one-time dues payment of $50, due January 2017.
  *   New members inducted in July 2017 would be asked to pay a membership fee of $250 that can be paid over 5 years, with initial payment due at induction in July 2017.
