Position Summary:
The Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University (education.msu.edu/te<http://education.msu.edu/te>), a national leader in teacher preparation and research on teaching, teacher learning, curriculum, policy, and international education, is seeking a full-time tenure system assistant or associate rank scholar in Language and Literacy. The position is a 9-month appointment with an August 16, 2018 start date.

We are seeking an individual with a strong research program or the clear potential for one whose research focuses on elementary grades reading instruction. We have a particular interest in scholars who specialize in: quantitative methods, policy issues, foundational skills, technology, or content area/disciplinary literacy.

Applicants should provide evidence of accomplishment in research, teaching, and service. The successful applicant will be expected to seek external research funding and develop research collaborations within and beyond the Department.

Major Responsibilities:
·         Conducting innovative, rigorous research
·         Securing external grants for research and development work
·         Teaching undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses in all modalities
·         Advising graduate students
·         Leading or supporting program development
·         Contributing to intra-university or school-university partnerships
·         Collaborating with or mentoring other faculty

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in literacy education or a related field, or provide evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start date of the appointment. Applicants for the position at the assistant level should have an earned doctorate in literacy education or a related field, and the promise of an externally funded research program. Applicants for the position at the associate level should also have an earned doctorate in literacy education, a strong portfolio of publications in top-ranked journals, and a track record of external funding.

Desired Qualifications:
We are particularly interested in scholars who study diverse populations of learners in elementary school settings.
