Greetings to members, RHF. Below are announcements with important information about upcoming events/topics.
ILA, Boston, July, 2016--Mark your calendars!
RHF Session - Saturday, July 9, 4:00-5:30, Sheraton Hotel, Room 104. Six members of the Reading Hall of Fame will be presenting: Octavio Henao Álvarez, James Baumann, Henrietta Dombey, Peter Freebody, Jerry Johns, and Robert Jimenez. Please share this information with graduate students and other colleagues. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn about the work of these distinguished scholars. I look forward to seeing you there.
RHF Breakfast - Sunday, July 10, 7-9:00 a.m. in Convention Center, Room 102. Join us for the induction of new members (living and deceased). This celebration will be followed by a business meeting for members of the RHF. Join us for this special occasion. New members include: Jan Dole, Charles Hulme, Gay Ivey, Marjorie Lipson, Michael McKenna, and Brian Street. New inductees (deceased) include: Dale Johnson, Maryann Manning, Jennifer Monaghan, and Robert M. Wilson. As soon as details are available, you will be receiving a note from Tim Rasinski, our treasurer asking you whether you plan to attend the breakfast.
Alan Farstrup Memorial Scholarship.
Several members had written for information about how to contribute to a memorial scholarship for Alan Farstrup who died this past year. His wife, Susan, sent the following to me.
The link for donations is https://makingagift.umn.edu/onlinegiving/enterOnlineGiving.do?owner=O_CEHD&desc_source=UWXX_EDHD_SITE. Then type in Alan Farstrup Memorial Fund for Literacy Education.
DUES.
Sometime in April, Tim Rasinski will be sending a note about a possible change in dues structure for the RHF. This note includes a rationale for the suggested change and calls for a vote from members. We ask you to please vote on this suggested change.
Best wishes for a wonderful Spring. I look forward to seeing many of you in Boston.
