[Reading-hall-of-fame] Update - RHF activities at ILA Conference, dues structure

Greetings!  Given that some of our members were not in attendance at the Annual Conference of the International Literacy Association in Boston, below is a summary of specific events sponsored by the Reading Hall of Fame.  I have also included some important information about the new dues structure approved by membership.



Presentations by recent inductees at a co-sponsored session:  Special "Thank you" to Octavio Alvarez, James Baumann,  Henrietta Dombey, Peter Freebody, Robert Jimenez, Jerry Johns.  The session was well attended and well received.  Presenters described  their work, highlighting specific contributions to literacy learning.

Breakfast meeting.  We inducted the following members, each of whom was introduced briefly at the breakfast meeting. Congratulations to our new members!

Inductions were followed by tributes to Arthur Applebee (by Rob Tierney) and Alan Farstrup (by Jane Hansen).

The following information was discussed at the business meeting.

Announcements:  Election of President - Elect --  Ray Reutzel   (President-Elect, July 2016-2017; President,  July 2017 - 2019); Ray will also assume responsibility for facilitating co-sponsored sessions at various literacy conferences this coming year.  Feel free to contact Ray if you are interested in taking the lead in submitting a proposal for a specific conference.

New Business
                We will need a new treasurer as of July 2017 - any volunteers?
              Producing videos of key scholars - Elfrieda Hiebert


Dues Structure: During the business meeting, we discussed the new dues structure approved by the Reading Hall of Fame membership.  Below I have summarized the decision.  Please note its implications for you as a RHF member.

                Dues for 2016 remain the same for all (including new inductees) - $25 - Please check to see if you have paid your dues. Please send payment (check) to our treasurer, Tim Rasinski.



Begin one-time payment in January 2017  (you may also pay your one-time dues now, if you would like).

  *   Existing members of 10 years or less would  make a one-time payment of $100, due January 2017 (inducted 2007 or after).
  *   Members of more than 10 years (inducted prior to or in 2006) would  make a one-time dues payment of $50, due January 2017.
  *   New members inducted in July 2017 would be asked to pay a membership fee of $250 that can be paid over 5 years, with initial payment due at induction in July 2017.

 It was great to talk with and reconnect with members who were able to attend the ILA conference.  For those who weren't there, we missed you -- I hope the information above provides you with up-to-date information about activities of the RHF.   Thank you for your involvement in this important professional organization.  Finally, welcome to our new members.
