Dear RHF members, Several months have passed since many of us gathered in St. Louis, and it's now time for an update. Several announcements follow:
1. The Fall 2015 Newsletter has been uploaded to the Reading Hall of Fame Website. (To access, go to the tab, Newsletters). Special thanks to David Reinking, Grace Pigozzi, and Emily Howell for their work. The newsletter has contributions from fellow members about recent presentations, research projects, and ideas for future studies. You will also learn more about new inductees to the Reading Hall of Fame: Octavio Alvarez, Barbara Comber, Henrietta Dombey, Peter Freebody, Robert Jimenez, and Jerry Johns. Information is also provided about the Supporting Young Scholars program with news of this year's recipients and their mentors. Take the time to read this newsletter -- and to view the photos from the July meeting in St. Louis. You will enjoy! Thanks again, David, Grace, and Emily.
2. Fall Conferences. Many RHF members are presenting at the ALER and LRA conferences this Fall. At ALER, we have a co-sponsored session (Nov. 5-8). Several RHF members (Vick Risko, Jack Cassidy, Tim Rasinski, & Ray Reutzel )are scheduled to present on the topic: What History has to Say: Significant Literacy Research Prior to 1980.
Nancy Roser also wrote a proposal for a session at LRA; This session, scheduled for December 3 is focused on Text Complexity: Bringing Research to Bear on Assumptions of the Common Core (RHF members David Pearson and Freddy Hiebert are listed on the program for this session).
3. I will be sending an announcement about the results of the voting for new inductees to RHF in the next week or so. I also want to acknowledge the work of Vicki Risko, our secretary, who solicited names, sent ballots, and responded to members' questions about the voting process, etc. And thank all of you for voting!
4. Dues! It's almost time to pay our dues for 2016. Tim Rasinski is planning to send a "dues request" to all members early in January. We encourage you to send your dues payment to Tim as soon as you can. We use member dues to pay for programs sponsored by RHF (e.g.,, SYS Mentoring Program). Of course, if you haven't paid your dues for 2015, feel free to send at this time (see newsletter for a request for 2015 dues). If you can't remember whether you paid this year, please contact Tim (trasinsk at kent.edu<mailto:trasinsk at kent.edu>). We appreciate and need your support. Thank you.
Best,
Rita Bean
President, RHF
