Colleagues, I have an update on memorial plans for Alan Farstrup.

1,  Those wishing to send cards and letters to Susan can mail them to

2.  On Wednesday, November 11, at 11:30, a funeral service will be held at
the the Bethania Lutheran Church, 603 Atterdag Road in Solvang, CA 93463. There
will be a reception following the service in Solvang.

3.  A memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 16th at 2:00 pm in the
pavilion at Maxine Barritt Park in Venice FL.  The address is 1800 Harbor
Dr. S, Venice FL 34285.

4.  A group of us are going to ask for LRA's assistance in organizing a
memorial service at LRA on Friday evening, probably about 7:30 or 8:00 pm.
More later.

5.  Adam and Susan are going to establish an endowed fellowship in Alan's
name at his doctoral alma mater, the College of Education and Human
Development at the University of Minnesota.  Contributions can be made to
that endowment just as soon as we receive details about how to make them.

That's what I know now. More later as details become available.

Those of you in the Reading Hall of Fame should know that Susan has been
able to read your many compelling tributes to Alan's as a leader in
literacy and a warm, gentle, and caring human being.  She is grateful for
them.
