[Reading-hall-of-fame] Alan Farstrup

Fellow Hall of Fame members:

I received a phone call from Susan Farstrup early Sunday morning letting me
know that Alan died during the night.  He was in a rehab facility
recovering from a recent stroke.

Alan was a long time LRA member, first joining the organization in the
middle 1970s.  Those of us in the RHF remember Alan as one of our most
active members in recent years.  And, of course, we remember him from his
long tenure (1992-2009) as Executive Director of IRA.

I also remember him as my graduate research/teaching assistant when I
taught at the University of Minnesota in the mid 1970s--and as a lifetime
friend and confidant.

As soon as plans for a funeral and memorial service are available, I'll
pass them onto the listserv.
