Bea was a force in Children’s Literature and in literacy leadership in NCTE, IRA, and NCRRL (then NCRE). I met her early in my career, and she was very helpful in getting me involved in IRA and NCTE. And she was, as others have said, a delightful colleague and an enthusiastic breath of fresh air in all and any professional interactions over nearly 5 decades.

Jane,
This is indeed very sad news. I have fond memories of Bee and going to
the movies one evening with her in Park City, UT. She was such a
delightfully optimistic soul! She will be missed by all those who knew
her and were touched by her deep sense of humanity.
