Given Bob's eternal optimistic spirit and his energy, we all find it so
tough to think of his no longer being there to encourage, chide, provoke,
and comfort us with his willing involvement in central debates of our
field.
He was a dear friend to me from my first days at Stanford and across the
years after he left Stanford for Riverside. His perspectives and model for
moving on to new ideas and methods over the years will, I trust, find their
way into our interactions with students for some time to come.
