[Reading-hall-of-fame] RHoFame request for dues

Dear Reading Hall of Fame member,


I have two reasons to write to you at this time.


First, I need to explain a change in our payment structure for dues and breakfast payments.


Second, this is a request for payment,  at this time,  of your 2015 dues.


First, the change in our payment structure:

For years, we have paid our dues at the time of IRA. In other words, we paid our 2014 dues in the weeks preceding the 2014 IRA conference. Given the change to July for upcoming IRA conferences, we can no longer pay our dues at the time of IRA. For tax and financial reporting to state and federal agencies we need to enter the calendar year earlier than July. Thus, we will collect our dues for each year during the preceding fall.

Our annual meeting/breakfast payments will continue, as usual, to be collected prior to IRA. We will notify you about them in a few months.

In other words, there will be separate payments for dues and the meeting/breakfast, as different one combined payment, as has been our practice.


Now, the request for payment of your 2015 dues:

Your 2015 dues of $25.00, U.S., are due in three weeks: December 6, 2014.

These dues enable the Reading Hall of Fame to provide travel grants to new members outside North America, mentor talented new scholars, support the website, and reimburse correspondence expenses. These expenses have no real limit; we fund them as much as possible each year.

We continue to encourage contributions in addition to each dues payment if at all possible. Thank You to everyone who is able to do this!

You will mail a check for your dues (and possible contribution) to the RHoFame treasurer:

We are sorry that there is no easy way for our International members to pay. Some of you pay in person at the conference, and some of you pool your dues in order to send us a larger check. It seems that a minimum of 150 U.S. dollars is the smallest check for us to conveniently cash. We so appreciate your membership, and do not worry about your payments. Someday our world will create a system whereby banks recognize checks written in other countries!!
