Colin:
I tend to agree with your perspective. This is a difficult decision involving change and change is always tough. I hope this works out and that people stick with IRA. I also agree that Marcie post is a solid CEO with a strong and positive vision about what IRA may need for the future.

While a shift away from May conference dates will be tough, change is certainly needed given conflicts with recent school testing schedules, and the like, that make it nearly impossible for many to regularly attend IRA. I hope it works out but am skeptical about this particular date and location.

Again, I hope these changes work out and that conferees and reading professionals stick with IRA over the long haul. IRA is needed more than ever now.

But I do know that IRA has had a lot of negative response to its timing of the conference in May, and I know Marcie consulted teachers and state level folk before putting the recommendation to the Board to make the change. After a very difficult period in IRA’s history my feeling is that the Association is currently in good hands, and has turned the corner.
