Emboldened by my success at posting Jane's list of names, let's see if we
can post a plain .txt version of the Minutes:

Reading Hall of Fame
Minutes
April 21, 2013, San Antonio

President Donna Ogle began by
introducing past presidents and guests. She then introduced Greg Brooks,
new
member or RHF in 2012, but unable to attend last year. She also introduced
Colin Harrison, our list serve coordinator.

Then, we introduced each new inductee,
all members in attendance formed a Welcome line, and new members in
attendance
walked the line, receiving a warm handshake from the current members. New
members:
      Camille Blachowicz
      Peter Bryant

Adriana Bus
      Philip Gough

Judith Green
      Maggie Snowling

Rita Bean provided an update on our new
program: Supporting Young Scholars: A Mentoring Program of the Reading
Hall of
Fame. Applications from young scholars are due June 1, 2013, and
information is
on our RHF website. RHF members interested in serving as mentors are to
contact
Rita. Decisions will be made in early fall about who will be mentored and
who
will be mentors during our first year of this program.

In honor of Harold Herber, RHF member
who died this year, Donna Alvermann shared reflections on his life as a
renowned professor.

The secretary¹s report was approved.
The treasurer¹s report was approved.
Alan Farstrup, treasurer, proposed an
internal audit of the treasurer¹s report, and Jim Cunningham will provide
this
service.

Historians report:
We approved a proposal to pay $1,000
annually to Neil Liwanag, starting this year. Alan Farstrup, RHF treasurer,
will begin the payment process. We showed the Hall of Fame website
throughout
our breakfast, and urged members to contribute in ways that will keep it
current. We decided to post deceased members.

Book Report:
Whose Knowledge Counts in Government
Literacy Policies? Edited by Kenneth Goodman, Robert Calfee, and Yetta
Goodman.
To be published by Routledge. This book will soon be out, its proceeds will
come to RHF, and it is intended to create a bridge between the policy
community
and RHF.

Linda Gambrell will oversee conference
proposals by RHF at various conferences throughout 2013-14.

Newsletter:
Ray Reutzel and Lesley Morrow,
co-editors of our RHF Newsletter will post it on the website this fall, and
will announce it via our list serve.

Discussion:
We discussed various options for the
number and distribution of the new inductees for next year, and voted for
this
pattern: We will induct 7, at least 3 of which must be international.

Meeting adjourned.

Secretary, Jane Hansen
