Tim, Good point.  However, it seems to me that anyone who would not want to accept an invitation to membership in the HOF would equally object to having themselves recognized in the honorary membership.   

The reason I bring this up is that I think most Halls of Fame allow for posthumous membership in the group.    

Another alternative might be to indicate that election to membership was made posthumously which would imply that the member did not have the opportunity accept or decline membership.

I don't agree that listing posthumous members separately is an indication that they are lesser. But it is recognizing that they were added to our list without their consent. History is littered with refusals to accept great honors: Marlon Brando and George C. Scott refused their Oscars; Jean Paul Sartre refused his Nobel in Literature' Lennon and McCartney turned down their Members of the British Order recogntions; Axl Rose won't enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, etc.

Listing them separately indicates that they went through the same selection process (same voters, etc.) that they would if they had been elected as a regular member, but that they had no opportunity to acknowledge or accept the honor. In other words, our approval of them was the same as our approval of each other. But we get the chance to say whether or not we want to be included. They weren't given that opportunity and we should list them separately rather including them in a way that presumes their acceptance (which seems like taking advantage of them).
