How about Priscilla Guittierez who teaches at the school of the Deaf in
Albuquerque? I follow her posts regularly on a number of teacher list
serves she is on and she is knowledgeable and articulate. Or Caryl Crowell
who is not longer a bilingual teacher in Arizona but still an early
childhood teacher who is active in NCTE and local teacher's groups and
knows so much about bilingual reading. Iliana Reyes could also add names
of teachers who work in biliterate contexts in Tucson schools. Send a note
to Richard Owen's teaching learning network (tln) or to the Whole Language
Umbrella asking for recommendations. There are so many teachers in this
country who know about reading research, the teaching and learning of
reading and children's literature. There are other professional reading
specialists, administrators, reading coaches who are knowledgeable about
reading research and its implications for classrooms .... Spread the word
you'll get lots of names. Ask the IRA international committees for names
of teachers and names of international researchers.
