Dear Colleagues,

Our breakfast meeting at IRA is approaching quickly. Please don't
forget to send Alan your $25 dues and $38 for the cost of the
breakfast. Here is some information about our activities at IRA.

At the breakfast we will initiate new members. They are Ray Reutzel,
Vicki Risko, Ann McGill Franzen, Greg Brooks, and Jill
Fitzgerald. We will do this early at 7:45 since Vicki, who is
President Elect of IRA has a meeting at 8am and would like to
participate in our ceremony. Try and come to the breakfast at about 7:20.

In addition we have some business to discuss at the meeting.

Finally we will be remembering colleagues we have lost this year. We
will be having tributes for Ed. Fry, Donald Graves, and John
Manning. There will be some family members there for Ed and John.
Alan will do a tribute for John, Patty Anders will do a tribute for
Ed and Jane Hansen will do a tribute for Don.

After the breakfast session the inductees from last year will do a
session from 9 to 11 which we hope you will attend. Both of these
events are in the Hilton.

We have some business to discuss. It was my goal to try to begin to
change RHF from a breakfast club to more of a working functioning
organization. We have made some progress and I want to continue along
that path. As you know we had a presentation we did at LRA, we are
presenting at IRA on Monday May 9th from 1 to 2 based on a proposal
written by Bob Calfee and I put together a proposal for LRA for next
year. The Goodman's published an edited book on behalf of the RHF,
and of course got us our website up and running. They are also
presenting at the European Conference in Belgium on behalf of the RHF.

To go forward I would like to ask for volunteers for three committees:

1. A program committee to write and submit proposals for future
conferences such as NCTE, AERA, etc.
2. A publications committee to write an online newsletter, including
activities we participate in as the RHF and
activities of importance that our members participate in. There might
be other types of publications we could work on as well
3. A planning committee to generate ideas to carry out.

I am asking for you to volunteer for one of the committees at this time.
Send me your name and the committee

I am also proposing that the RHF set a time for a business meeting at
LRA, and IRA (other than the breakfast meeting) to deal with
business. Our breakfast is for celebration and to socialize. There is
no time for planning and a lot of business. I will leave the times of
the business meeting at LRA to our next president Donna Ogle.

With that said, I invite you now to volunteer for one of the three
committees so they are formed when we come to IRA. When I have
volunteers, I will let you know who the committee members are and
appoint one of the members to set a time for meeting at IRA for:
*The program committee to start preparing programs for presentation
at next year's conferences such as NCTE, IRA and AERA, for:
* The publications committee to start planning a newsletter and other
publications, and for:
* The planning committee to begin thinking about other things we can
that would be productive as an organization.

One idea for the planning committee might be to write a letter to the
IRA Board offering our help in these difficult times. I will discuss
this further when we meet

If anyone has agenda items for the breakfast meeting let me know. To
make the Association even more official, I have a small token of
recognition for past presidents of the RHF and I will bring an official gavel
for Donna.

Thank you for your participation

Sincerely
Lesley
