Gabu Giffords is our  congress woman. We knew her well enough to strike 
up a conversation with her on a plane recently. She was on her way home 
from Washington, She's been here at the village several times. One of 
her aides was in our whole language block several years ago. She was 
elected for the first time to replace a gay republican  jim Kolbe who 
refused to support her right wing opponent because he had run a gay 
bashing campaign against him in the previous election. This third time 
she was targeted which meant that the Republicans ran a tea party 
opponent who waged an ugly mean disgusting campaign against her. and 
spent millions of unaccounted for dollars

It's not fair to lable her a "blue dog democrat" because she voted right 
on most things. I'd like to think the old folks carried the election for 
her because it was the early voters who finally produced the vote for 
her this time. If they did it was because of the disgust they felt at 
the campaign. Her campaign was mostly actual films of her opponents far 
out promises. We wish her full recovery.  And likewise for Arizona.
