[Reading-hall-of-fame] An IRA Update

On January 28, I returned from Egypt. Now, I’m off to the East coast to
“crash” the IRA Board meeting in Newark, DE. I’ve been a member of  IRA for
over 40 years (joined at 10) and have been “crashing” the board meetings for
15 years.  The *Specialized Literacy Professionals* (see attached
application) campaigned for the right to attend Board meetings, many years
ago. Although I don’t usually go to the winter Board meeting, some recent
events at headquarters have again been very disturbing and perplexing. Among
those events is last month’s newly announced round of staff departures
including several longtime staff members whom you all know. These departures
are the result of another buyout. Apparently, an aura of fear prevails among
the staff - not helped by the sale signs on all the buildings. However, some
of the rumored changes are interesting.

            An added benefit of this trip - I’ll also get to spend time with
kids and grandkids.
