I'm forwarding this message from Bess Altwerger about a petiition and a
Teachers march on Washington this summer.
The organizers would like to have any of you willing to add your names
as sponsors and or petition signers. The Declaration which I wrote some
years ago seems particularly
appropriate in this era of attacks on public education.
Ken Goodman
Richard Owen and I are excited to announce that Ken Goodman's "A
Declaration of Professional Conscience for Teachers" is now ready for
endorsement on the change.org petition site. You can find it by going to:
http://education.change.org/petitions/view/a_declaration_of_professional_conscience_for_teachers
With Ken's permission, we listed Save Our Schools March and National
Call to Action as the sponsoring organization (though the name listed on
the petition site needs to be corrected). Please ask all teachers and
other educators you know to endorse the declaration. Also ask them to
join the Save Our Schools March facebook cause site at
http://www.causes.com/causes/556335. Also, you can view and print the
entire declaration to distribute or hang on your classroom/office door
by going to the Richard Owen Publishers website
http://www.rcowen.com/rcoprfdv.htm which can also be accessed directly
through the petition site.
Please join me in thanking Ken for writing this most inspirational and
historical Declaration, and also our friend, Richard Owen, for his time
and persistence in making the declaration available to us as a beautiful
print document and as an on-line petition.
Finally, let us all make 2011 the year that educators, families and
students unite to make their voices of protest heard in our nation's
capitol and around the nation! Plan to join us in Washington, D.C. July
28-31, 2011.
