Subject: Applications Open Soon: Internal Funding Opportunities for Policy Support and Participatory Research

Dear RDN

Please see information about two funding opportunities to be launched next month. I would be grateful if you would circulate to relevant colleagues.

Internal Funding Opportunities Relaunching in October 2026
We continue to invest in Research, Knowledge Exchange, and Innovation through our internal funding portfolio. As part of that portfolio, two popular funding schemes, the Policy Support Fund (PSF) and Participatory Research (PR) Fund,<https://uniofnottm.sharepoint.com/sites/O365-ResearchDevelopmentandFunding/SitePages/Policy-Support-Fund-and-Participatory-Research-Fund.aspx> will relaunch for applications on 1 October 2026.

Policy Support Fund (PSF)
The Policy Support Fund helps researchers engage with policymaking processes at local, regional, national, and international levels, supporting research that can inform and influence decision-making.
We take a broad view of policy engagement, encompassing not only government policy but also work with standards bodies, regulatory frameworks, and commissioning processes.

Thinking about applying?
Now is a great time to start preparing. Visit the Policy and Engagement at UoN SharePoint<https://uniofnottm.sharepoint.com/sites/Institute> page for resources, guidance, and training materials. You may also be interested in attending Policy Quest: Designing Impactful Campaigns on 23 September<https://uniofnottm.sharepoint.com/sites/Institute/_layouts/15/Event.aspx?ListGuid=7d4cf336-770e-4ec1-a59d-53f5e23013da&ItemId=15>, which will provide useful insights into developing effective policy engagement activities. If you would like advice or would like to discuss a potential application with our Policy Impact Manager, Tiffany Trundell, Tiffany has set aside time on 13 October for one-to-one consultations. You can book a slot via this booking link<https://outlook.office.com/bookwithme/user/89b21e93ef0f41ad93a2d611d5033600@nottingham.ac.uk/meetingtype/aMXzPME3Ikm1nR5i2SkznA2?bookingcode=771e4f44-c70f-43cc-95cb-7a4d6887bae7&anonymous&ismsaljsauthenabled&ep=mcard>.

Participatory Research (PR) Fund
Participatory or co-produced research improves research quality and impact by actively involving communities and research users throughout the research process. By drawing on lived experience, needs and preferences, this approach helps ensure that research is relevant, meaningful, and more readily translated into practice.

Thinking about applying?
Join our lunchtime webinar on Monday 5 October from 12:00pm to 12:45pm to learn more about participatory research at UoN, explore the support available and ask questions about the fund and application process. You can find the session on our Central Short Courses<https://training.nottingham.ac.uk/Portal/Home4> pages. Please search for 'An introduction to Participatory Research - Principles, Practice and Project design'.

Key Dates

  *   Applications open: 1 October 2026
  * Projects expected to start: January 2027
  * Project spend to be completed by: July 2027

Further information about both schemes, including eligibility criteria, application guidance and the application questions you can expect, is available on the PSF and PR SharePoint pages<https://uniofnottm.sharepoint.com/sites/O365-ResearchDevelopmentandFunding/SitePages/Policy-Support-Fund-and-Participatory-Research-Fund.aspx>. We encourage interested colleagues to review these resources and begin developing their proposals ahead of the funding launch.

If you have any questions about these funding opportunities, please email internalfunding at nottingham.ac.uk<mailto:internalfunding at nottingham.ac.uk>.
