I’m reaching out to you today to introduce the MASC tool, a text data anonymisation tool developed by the team at Trilateral. MASC automates text redaction at EU/UK GDPR standards (more details below). We’re looking for external collaborators who would be willing to give feedback on a Beta version of the MASC tool. I’m reaching out to you because of your work in AI ethics and responsible use of AI/data for science and thought this might be of interest in this regard. Would you be interested in meeting with a member of the Trilateral team for a demo of the tool?

For more information on MASC, see the flyer attached to this email. Here is an overview of the tool’s use cases:

  1.  Research, e.g., anonymising interview transcripts, clinical trial data
  2.  DPOs and subject access/freedom of information requests, e.g., redacting information that shouldn’t be released
  3.  Anonymisation of text data for AI model training
  4.  In the medium-term, we are also looking at disclosure in legal and law enforcement processes, although that has extra legal requirements we will be working on.
We’d ask you to try the tool and redaction on either some synthetic datasets we can provide, or your own data if you feel comfortable. We’re hoping to gather your impressions of the tool’s performance, and if there are any additional features or adjustments you think would make this more valuable/competitive.
