From Bernd.Stahl at nottingham.ac.uk Tue Nov 4 14:41:59 2025 From: Bernd.Stahl at nottingham.ac.uk (Bernd Stahl (staff)) Date: Tue, 4 Nov 2025 14:41:59 +0000 Subject: [Rdf-internal] FW: REF Readiness Review (round 2) In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hi all, All the documents that Andy refers to are in our internal RDF folder under REF2029: [?Folder icon] RDF metrics Kind regards, Bernd From: Andy Crabtree (staff) Sent: 04 November 2025 13:00 To: PS-CS-Academic Subject: REF Readiness Review (round 2) Importance: High Hi, I?m sure you will very pleased to hear that the second round of output reviews for REF2029 starts now ? If you are research active, this guidance applies to you so *please read carefully* 1. Your group leader hosts a shared folder ? called ?R2 (live)? ? with the documentation you will need to complete this round 2. Read the file 'REF infoPack' *before* you nominate any outputs (conference or journal papers, books or book chapters) for review so you understand the assessment criteria; we are looking for 3* & 4* outputs 3. Nominate potential 3* & 4* outputs published since January 2025 in the file ?REF R2 outputs list? Note 1. Don?t forget to ask your research staff / PGRs if they have published anything this year that could be 3* or 4* quality Note 2. Previous submissions that were accepted but not published at the time of the last review (e.g., CHI 2025 outputs), were *not* reviewed, so please *add* them to the list as well if you think they are of 3* or 4* quality Note 3. Any output published since January 2021 that provides a literature review / survey should *not* be submitted *unless* it can be demonstrated it might satisfy 3* or 4* quality criteria; these outputs should be flagged directly to the Director of Research (email me) and be accompanied by a supporting statement (see below) explaining how they meet quality criteria 4. Write a 200 word (max) supporting statement for each nominated output using the Supporting Statement Template and once completed put it in the ?Drop ? here? folder Note 4. You should *also* write a supporting statement (as above) for every output you submitted in the last round that was deemed potential 3* or 4* (I?ll let you know by email if you have any); you may also have received some useful feedback to draw on, see the 'R1 reviewed? file in the 'R1 (Jan 2025) completed? folder to find out 5. The deadline for submission of outputs to review (including supporting statements) is 30th of January 2026 6. It won?t take a great deal of time to read the guidance, add your nominated output(s) to the list, and write a short supporting statement for each, but please don?t leave it until the deadline. Many of the 100 word descriptions provided last time round (if they were provided at all) were not very informative or useful. So, unfortunately, I will be sending them back to do again as a *priority* if that is the case this time round. Please feel free to ping me with a draft if you want me cast an eye over a statement. Any queries, any questions, anything you?re not sure about, please let me know best wishes, andy -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I am sharing this partly because you may find it interesting to see how the discussion of the future of RRI in Europe and the Framework Programme is progressing. Secondly, this policy brief has the format of policy briefs that was developed in the context of the EU and was promoted by the EU in the past, so it may be interesting to look at the structure and logic for policy briefs that we are working on. Also, we are now preparing a version of this brief with a nicer look and feel, which will then also be accompanied by dissemination activities from REINFORCING. I really think your feedback made the paper stronger. It took us a bit longer than planned to incorporate your comments and revise the draft policy brief accordingly, but now we are nearly there. Please find attached the final version. We did our best to include your comments and suggestions. However, not all aspects could be taken up, mainly for the sake of brevity. Some of you have indicated to be named as contributors (see p. 6). In case you prefer to withdraw your name from this final version, please let me know. And those of you who are not listed yet and would like to be named, please drop me a note. And no worries: even if you didn?t add comments to the draft, you clearly made valuable contributions through your participation in one of the workshops. I believe having many of you listed as contributors will help to increase policy impact. Re the next steps: we will submit this policy brief to the Commission end of next week the latest. So in case you would like to be removed or added, do get in touch by Wednesday, Oct. 29. Of course, we will also share the submitted version with you. As we think the layout of this official policy brief could use some improvement, REINFORCING will provide a version in a more appealing design. We will also share that version with you. Needless to say, it would be great if you could use your networks to disseminate the policy brief. In parallel, REINFORCING will also approach key policy makers, including MEPs. Thanks again for your support, best wishes, Ralf _____________________________________________________________________ Dr. Ralf Lindner Head of Department Policy & Society Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI Breslauer Stra?e 48 | 76139 Karlsruhe | Germany Phone +49 721 6809-292 | Mob. +49 176 228 717 32 ralf.lindner at isi.fraunhofer.de http://www.isi.fraunhofer.de/en.html ______________________________________________________________________ ________________________________ From: Lindner, Ralf > Sent: Monday, August 18, 2025 8:13:04 AM To: Lindner, Ralf > Cc: Yorulmaz, Merve >; B?hrer-Top?u, Susanne >; angela.simone >; Nieminen Mika >; Heinisuo Emmi >; Lehtinen Santtu >; Daimer, Stephanie > Subject: REINFORCING: Policy Workshop on Open Responsible Research and Innovation in FP10 | DRAFT Policy Brief ready for your comments Dear colleagues, I hope this finds you well ? either after a hopefully regenerating summer break, or you might be still enjoying your well-deserved holidays! Our policy workshops on embedding Open and Responsible R&I in the next Framework Programme already date back a few weeks. In the meantime, as you surely know, the EC published its proposal for FP10 (https://research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu/news/all-research-and-innovation-news/horizon-europe-2028-2034-twice-bigger-simpler-faster-and-more-impactful-2025-07-16_en). Since our workshops, we collated and clustered your inputs. Based on these and complemented with some insights from current policy documents and work conducted in the REINFORCING project, we developed a first draft of the policy paper. As you will see, the paper is still rather drafty, but we waned to here from you first prior to finetuning and polishing. We now kindly invite you to review the draft and comment and/or make suggestions for improvement. Before you start, just a few remarks: * We learned that we should use the EC?s template for policy briefs. Thus, we are a bit constrained in the way we can structure the document. However, further down the road we might publish the content of the brief differently? * To make it easier for us to collate your feedback, we decided to put the document on a google drive. If you prefer not to add your comments to the online document, you can also send me your comments by mail. * In case you make changes, please be sure to have the track changes turned on. * In terms of content, our feeling is that the policy brief would benefit particularly if we made a few more very concrete recommendations (see section ?Policy Implications and Recommendations?). So, any concrete suggestions here would be more than welcome. * For the sake of transparency, we would like to name you as experts who contributed to the policy brief. If you would like to be named, please add your name and institution to the section ?Sources? in the document. If you prefer not to be named, that is absolutely fine. Of course, you can nonetheless suggest changes in the document. * Please provide your feedback by Sept. 4. We want to finalise the policy brief by end of September. Here?s the link to the draft policy brief: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WWBeAKMXuAudX79zKb28Bop4-f4sW9ir/edit?usp=drive_link&ouid=116167166996571226947&rtpof=true&sd=true (Please let me know if you can?t access the doc.) Many thanks for now. We are very much looking forward to your feedback and your suggestions for improvement! Kind regards, Bernd ________________________________ From: Dirk Hovorka Sent: Thursday, November 20, 2025 10:45 To: muellerb ; edavidso ; Chiasson, Mike (MGMT) Subject: Gauging Interest in JIT "Digital Futures" workshop at ICIS (hybrid)? Dear ?Futuring? Abstract Authors, ICIS is fast approaching, and I have received several inquiries about the proposed JIT workshop for the Special Issue ?Futuring: ?Digital? Futures as a Novel Site of Inquiry and Imagination?. ICIS this year has presented a variety of access issues for authors and the Senior Editors. In discussing the options with the JIT -EiC, we have decided to host a short workshop to help you prepare for the submission deadline (Feb 15 2026 plenty of time!) We what we to provide is clarity of the types of contributions we hope to receive and expand on the brief feedback we sent out on each of your extended abstracts. We are hoping to provide insights on the challenges of writing and assessing this type of work but only one of the SEs is attending ICIS so we are unsure what exactly we will be covering. Due to the situation with travel, we will try to do this in a hybrid mode (details to be worked out) --- that will pose time challenges for some people who are in other parts of the world. To help with this planning, could you please let me know if you are : 1. Attending ICIS in person 2. Would join a hybrid workshop (if the timing allows)? We are planning this in a PRE-conference timeframe (Dec 13 or 14), and I am negotiating with ICIS to find a time/space. I realize that without a firm time/ date it is not possible for you to commit, but I am trying to gauge interest before I involve too many more people. Please let me know ASAP and I will get back to you with further details. Also ? please help by informing your author teams ? I could not recover all emails from a computer issue that has been ? difficult. Apologies to those left off. Regards, Dirk ----------------------------------- Dirk S. Bernd From: Ana?s Resseguier Sent: 24 November 2025 10:13 To: Bernd Stahl (staff) Cc: Joshua Hughes Subject: Hello and introducing the MASC tool Dear Bernd, ??I hope you?re doing well Soon is the end of the irecs project. It?d be great to find another opportunity to collaborate again! I?m reaching out to you today to introduce the MASC tool, a text data anonymisation tool developed by the team at Trilateral. MASC automates text redaction at EU/UK GDPR standards (more details below). We?re looking for external collaborators who would be willing to give feedback on a Beta version of the MASC tool. I?m reaching out to you because of your work in AI ethics and responsible use of AI/data for science and thought this might be of interest in this regard. Would you be interested in meeting with a member of the Trilateral team for a demo of the tool? For more information on MASC, see the flyer attached to this email. Here is an overview of the tool?s use cases: 1. Research, e.g., anonymising interview transcripts, clinical trial data 2. DPOs and subject access/freedom of information requests, e.g., redacting information that shouldn?t be released 3. Anonymisation of text data for AI model training 4. In the medium-term, we are also looking at disclosure in legal and law enforcement processes, although that has extra legal requirements we will be working on. We?d ask you to try the tool and redaction on either some synthetic datasets we can provide, or your own data if you feel comfortable. We?re hoping to gather your impressions of the tool?s performance, and if there are any additional features or adjustments you think would make this more valuable/competitive. If you would be interested to find out more and try the tool, please contact our trials coordinator joshua.hughes at trilateralresearch.com with your availability.
