Hi all,
Below is Colin’s response to Damian’s proposal to develop an MRes programme. I have put this on the agenda for today’s RDF meeting to do some brainstorming how we want to proceed with it.
Kind regards,
Bernd

Hi!
Thanks for this - it would be great to move forward on developing this. The School doesn't have an MRes degree at present. I think that the starting point for this would be to:
(1) Decide on a structure for the degree - e.g. is this entirely a one-year research project, is there some preparatory module(s) in the first semester? It is worth looking at the curriculum catalogue<https://campus.nottingham.ac.uk/psc/csprd/EMPLOYEE/SA/c/NUI_FRAMEWORK.PT_AGSTARTPAGE_NUI.GBL?CONTEXTIDPARAMS=TEMPLATE_ID%3aPTPPNAVCOL&scname=UN_STAFF_PLAN_SPEC&PanelCollapsible=Y&PTPPB_GROUPLET_ID=UN_STAFF_PLAN_SPEC&CRefName=UN_STAFF_PLAN_SPEC> to see what structures are used around the University.
(2) Put together an initial business case that we can send to the Faculty for comment/approval. There isn't a specific format for this, but I suggest that we include:
a) A summary of the aims of the MRes programme
b) Student demand for programmes of this type and topic
c) Expected size of the programme and what demands it makes on the School (e.g. supervision, new modules, additional demand on existing modules)
d) The context for it within the School
e) The structure of the programme.
Perhaps you could have a think about this and sketch out the business case document for us to discuss, say, early next month?
Good wishes,
Colin

Hi Colin,
Following the agreement to explore MRes courses in CS. Can we propose one on AI and Ethics as soon as possible? I volunteer to help the sell this course in Africa. I can do the leg work with the support of the School and I strongly believe we will get lots of admission via this route.
Kind regards
Damian
