Hi Bernd,

I hope you're well.

I was wondering if you could share a message with the Responsible Digital Futures group for me please, if relevant, and if not, if you could direct me to anyone else in CS who would be more relevant?

There are two projects from Faculty of Arts that are looking to further develop with an AI or software angle, to make research outputs usable in the real world:

  *   Translating text into 'Easy Language' (a simplified version of English, suitable for an 11-year-old to understand) to improve accessibility to information, resources, etc. The researcher is looking for someone to develop a project to build their translation abilities into an AI/generative AI tool.
  *   Inclusive subtitles: The background research to understand problems with current subtitles and how to improve these has been done, and the researcher is now looking for someone who is able to develop a software that will 'translate' standard subtitles into more accessible versions of their choice, e.g., including audio description or identifying the speaker.

Both projects are looking to be developed over the next few months, with aims of applying for funding in Spring. I'm not sure if either project would be of interest, but thought the underlying skills could overlap with some research going on in the group. If you have suggestions of academics or other research groups who may be interested, please let me know. As always, happy to meet with anyone interested to discuss further.
