Dear Colleagues
Please circulate and consider whether you or a colleague would be interested in joining the team of editors at Teaching Mathematics and its Applications, the IMA's international journal dedicated to advancing mathematics education at upper secondary and university levels. The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) invites applications from scholars based in any country.
Here are some details of the role, and you can find an extended version, with responsibilities and person specification at https://static.primary.prod.gcms.the-infra.com/static/teamat/document/Editor_advert_2026_Final.pdf?node=f9a2fcd4a6b32b1b98b1
Teaching Mathematics and its Applications publishes high-quality articles that explore innovative approaches to teaching, learning, curriculum development, assessment, technology-enhanced learning, and the broader practice of mathematics education. The journal provides a forum for educators, researchers, and practitioners to share insights that improve mathematics teaching and learning for students from upper secondary/high school level through to university first degree level.
About the Role
An Editor provides academic leadership for the journal, working closely with the existing Editors and Associate Editors, Editorial Board<https://academic-oup-com.libezproxy.open.ac.uk/teamat/pages/Editorial_Board>, reviewers, authors, Oxford University Press, and the IMA. The successful candidate will help shape the journal's strategic direction, maintain its academic quality and reputation, and support the continued growth of its readership and impact. The journal currently publishes around 25 papers per year, in four issues.
Appointment
The appointment will be for an initial term of 5 years, commencing in or around January 2027, with the possibility of renewal by agreement. The Editor will receive support from Oxford University Press and the IMA Journals Board of Management.
How to Apply
Applicants should submit:
* A curriculum vitae.
* A brief statement (up to two pages) outlining their suitability for the role.
Applications should be sent to post at ima.org.uk by 1 Dec 2026.
Informal enquiries may be directed to Chris Sangwin <C.J.Sangwin at ed.ac.uk> or Cathy Smith <cathy.smith at open.ac.uk>.
The IMA is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
Best wishes
Cathy
