Dear colleagues,
It is my pleasure to let you know about the call (below) for a forthcoming special issue of Teaching Mathematics and its Applications focussing on Computer Aided Assessment. We are particularly looking for papers concerning the research design and innovative use of computer-aided assessment that aims to improve teaching and learning mathematics for students from upper secondary/high school level through to university first degree, including for mathematics teachers.

Best wishes
Cathy

This announcement is on behalf of Teaching Mathematics and its Applications, a journal of the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications, published by Oxford University Press
http://teamat.oxfordjournals.org/

We are planning a special issue focusing on Computer Aided Assessment of Mathematics. This is an open call for submissions of research papers in this field. Computer aided assessment (CAA) systems are used to automatically establish the mathematical properties of answers provided by students in response to questions.

The journal provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences which contribute to the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning for students from upper secondary/high school level through to university first degree level. A distinctive feature of the journal is its emphasis on the applications of mathematics and mathematical modelling within the context of mathematics education world-wide. The journal's readership consists of mathematics teachers, students, researchers and those concerned with curriculum development and assessment, indeed anyone concerned about the education of users of mathematics.

The journal accepts two types of papers. Section A consists of research articles based on empirical investigation and/or theoretical argument whose conclusions inform the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning at the relevant level. Section B consists of articles based on scholarly argument, informed by knowledge of research, such as innovative approaches to teaching with a justification for considering their wider use.

All articles submitted will be subject to the normal reviewing procedure. We anticipate that the issue will be published in January 2026, and so we would like articles to be submitted by the 1st August 2025, with final submission by 1st Dec 2025. Please indicate your article is intended for publication in this special issue at the time of submission.
