Dear all

The May edition of the NRICH website is now live at http://nrich.maths.org

This month's site has been developed in collaboration with Jo Boaler, based on her work on group-worthy tasks - on the site you will find activities which offer opportunities for collaborative work, short articles that outline the merits of working in this way, and examples of teachers' classroom practice.

The Teachers' Notes accompanying each problem offer guidance on how group work can be developed in classrooms. There is also support available for teachers introducing group work for the very first time.

Students can submit their solutions to the May problems - we will publish them in June.

Finally, an exciting professional development opportunity:

NRICH Teacher Inspiration Days 2010/11

The NRICH team is offering a free professional development programme for mathematics teachers at maintained sector schools/colleges in the UK.

The aim of the programme is to support mathematics teachers who are committed to nurturing confident, resourceful and enthusiastic learners.

The Teacher Inspiration programme will be delivered as three one-day events over the course of the 2010/11 academic year:

1st October 2010 - Enriching resources, inspiring learners
24th March 2011 - Enriching classrooms, inspiring learning
17th June 2011 - Enriching networks, inspiring teachers

The programme is aimed at teachers of mathematics at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

The Goldman Sachs Foundation has generously provided support to enable us to offer places without charge to mathematics teachers at maintained sector schools in the UK.

The deadline for applications is 5th July 2010.

For more details, and to apply for a place go to http://nrich.maths.org/teacherinspiration

With best wishes from the NRICH Team.
