ACADEMIC MANAGER
AIMSSEC is part of a visionary pan African initiative to promote the
teaching and learning of the mathematical sciences in Africa bringing
people together from around the continent. See

Summary of responsibilities:
Management of all AIMSSEC activities to include:
* the management and teaching of professional development courses for
mathematics teachers along with a team of more than 40 senior
academics from around the world who teach on the AIMSSEC courses as
unpaid volunteers;
* the development of an online distance learning course to train
teachers from historically disadvantaged communities as subject
leaders in mathematics in partnership with The Institute for
Mathematics and Science Teaching of Stellenbosch University (IMSTUS);
* maintaining and building on the established AIMSSEC educational
services;
* supporting related research and evaluation;
* fundraising in order to expand the AIMSSEC programme.
Competencies and personal attributes:
* a passion for mathematics, for teaching and for improving
educational opportunities for learners in South African schools;
* good interpersonal and people management, verbal and writing
skills, planning, organising and financial management;
* energy, flexibility and willingness to go that 'extra distance' to
achieve the project goals.
Minimum qualifications and experience required:
* a good honours degree in the mathematical sciences;
* qualifications or experience in school teaching, teacher training
and educational research;
* experience in team leadership, project management (or similar),
budgeting and managing funds;
* well developed computing skills.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
