“Sciences serving science: Cross-disciplinary issues in mathematics and
science education” is the third in a series of biennial international
Science and Mathematics Education Conferences (SMEC) that have been
hosted by the Centre for the Advancement of Science Teaching and
Learning (CASTeL), of Dublin City University & St. Patrick’s College,
Drumcondra.
Conference participants wishing to give a poster or oral presentation
which addresses the themes of the conference are invited to submit an
abstract (max. 250 words) which will be reviewed by the organising
committee. Based on their quality, a selection of participants will be
invited to submit a paper review of their presentation for publication
in the journal Science Education International. Student prizes will be
awarded to the best poster and oral presentation
SMEC 2008 will address the issues of sciences serving science, exploring
questions such as transfer of knowledge and skills between disciplines,
breadth versus depth in science curricula and the implications of these
issues in regard to teacher education.
