PROFESSORSHIP IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION AT AGDER UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, NORWAY
Agder University College invites applications for one permanent position
as Professor
in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural
Sciences, Campus Kristiansand. This newly-built campus is beautifully
situated on the south coast of Norway.
The Department of Mathematics has about 25 academic staff, including
five full professors in mathematics education. At present there are
twenty post graduate students attached to the doctoral programme in
mathematics education. The department is host to the Nordic Graduate
School in Mathematics Education. The department offers a three-year
bachelor’s degree programme in mathematics, two master programmes in
mathematics education, and is responsible for the mathematical subjects
in the teacher training programmes at AUC, and in the study programmes
in economics.
The research group in mathematics education is currently conducting
several major research projects financed by the Norwegian research
council and other public sources. It is the ambition of the Faculty to
build a research group with a strong European reputation for excellence
in mathematics education.
The applicant should have experience within empirically based research
in mathematics education, and have a strong background in mathematics.
Specialist in research on pre school institutions will have an
advantage, provided the aforementioned requirements are fulfilled.
Qualification in Norwegian are desirable, otherwise the appointee must
commit to undergoing training in Norwegian during the first two years,
to be able to supervise master and doctor students. Written and oral
command of the English language is a prerequisite.
The appointee will teach and supervise primarily at master’s and
doctoral levels in subjects within the field of mathematics education,
and may be given teaching tasks in teacher training programmes as well.
In addition to the academic qualifications, applicants should have
relevant teaching experience as well as administrative and
inter-personal skills.
If an applicant is unable to document formal teaching qualifications,
the applicant may be appointed on the condition that such qualifications
are obtained within a given period stipulated by the Faculty.
The employment policy of the Norwegian state aims at a balance in
cultural background, age and gender that reflects the general
population; women and persons from underrepresented minorities are
therefore encouraged to apply.
The position is placed on a salary scale in accordance with the coding
for state employees. The salary for a professor will be in the range of
NOK 467,700—575,200 from which mandatory state pension deductions will
be made.

in four copies, together with three copies of maximum 10 selected
scholarly works, and a complete list of works.
