You may know that the European Commission operates "Programme Alßan", a "high level scholarship programme" specifically addressed to Latin America offering master and doctorate scholarships with a maximum value of 1500 euros monthly (and advanced specialization scholarships with a maximum value of 2500 euros monthly). The duration of the scholarships ranges from a minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 18 for specialization, 24 for master and 36 for doctorate. In all cases, the European Union's contribution cannot exceed 75% of the eligible total cost of the project.

Programme Alßan
Programme Alßan is a high-level EU scholarship programme specifically addressed to Latin America. It is expected that around 3900 Latin American students and professionals will benefit from these scholarships, in the European Union, until 2010.

Programme Alßan will enable Latin American students and professionals, future academics and decision-makers in their own countries, to benefit from the excellence of the Higher Education Area in the European Union.
The first scholarship holders of Programme Alßan started their postgraduate education (master or doctorate degrees) or higher level professional training/upgrading in the academic year 2003/2004.
The periods of education and training may range from 6 months to 3 years depending on the type of project and the level envisaged.
The financial contribution of the European Commission to Alßan scholarships amounts to EUR 75 Million.
Eligible countries are: Argentine, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
