On Wednesday 1st November 2006, Professor David Burghes announced his
resignation as Director of the National Centre for Excellence in the
Teaching of Mathematics.
The recruitment process to find a suitable replacement will be underway
shortly. The Tribal Group will work with the DfES to identify a
shortlist of candidates. The intention is for the new Director post to
be part-time, with the successful applicant providing strategic
leadership for the National Centre, supported by a senior management
team dealing with the Centre's day-to-day operational and delivery
obligations.
To cover the interim period an executive management team has been put in
place to ensure that the work of the National Centre continues. The team
comprises Professor David Reynolds of University of Plymouth, who was
one of the leaders of original bid to the DfES, Barry Brooks, Tribal's
Senior Director, with Jane Imrie as Acting Director.
